Snowy Town Mason Jar Christmas Candle

1

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Pinterest???  Well, probably, considering that is what my whole blog is based on!  Anyway, so I was looking around on Pinterest trying to find some fun Christmas crafts to try this year, and I found this cutie patootie and knew I had to try it.  I got the idea for this mason jar candle from the following pin.

This pin links to a site that has some of the MOST adorable craft ideas ever!  I definitely recommend checking it out if you love crafts as much as I do!

Alright, so I used the town template from that site, but everything else I did a little differently.  On the site, it used paper, and I traced it onto the jar and painted it rather than attaching the paper.  It also used spray snow, which looks awesome, but it comes off really easily, so I used a toothpick and some white paint to create a winter wonderland on the jar.  Lastly, I coated the top of the mason jar with snow paint rather than using epsom salt.  Basically, this craft is definitely not my own design, but I made enough changes to the materials used that I want to share with you all how I did it.  I think it turned out super cute, and I love the Christmasy feel it gives to the room I have it displayed in!!!

SNOWY TOWN MASON JAR CHRISTMAS CANDLE

Materials:

  • Mason Jar
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Town template (you can find this on the site that the pin links to, or click here)
  • Permanent black marker
  • Tape
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • Paintbrush (one that is a good size for decent detail)
  • White Acrylic Paint
  • Toothpick
  • Snow Paint (you can get this at any craft store, or on amazon here)
  • Brush to apply the snow paint
  • Flameless Tealight Candles

Directions:

1.) First off, wipe your mason jar down with rubbing alcohol and let it dry.  This will allow the paint to adhere better.

2.) Trace the town template onto a piece of paper, then use scissors to cut the template out.

2

3.) Use tape to adhere the paper around the bottom of the mason jar, then use your permanent black marker to trace the template onto the jar.  Once you’ve traced it onto the jar, go back and draw in the windows on the houses.

3

4.) Now that the design is on the jar, use your black acrylic paint and a paint brush to paint the design.  I used two coats.  Allow to dry.

4

5.) Using a toothpick, create “snow” by dipping the toothpick in white acrylic paint and making lots and lots of tiny white dots surrounding the city up to the top of the jar.  Allow to dry.

5

6.) Now you want to apply your snow paint to the very top (lid area) of the mason jar.  Use a small paint brush to do this.

6

7.) Turn your flameless tealight candles on, and place them in the jar.  You can use as many as you want depending on how “bright” you want it.  I used three.

7

8.) Now put it on display where lots of people will see it, because it’s so darn cute!

Oh my gosh!  I LOVE IT!!!  Merry Christmas! 🙂

DIY Musical Note Mason Jar Candle Craft

1

Okay, are you ready for an absolutely ADORABLE, but ridiculously EASY craft project?  I was recently going through my piano music and seeing what I could get rid of (my music holder/seat was overflowing!).  However, getting rid of music is NEVER easy!  So, as I was feeling nostalgic (and borderline hoarder like, when it comes to sheet music), I decided to try to think of something I could do with some of my music that I never play, rather than getting rid of it.  This cutie pa-tootie musical notes mason jar candle craft is the result!

This thing is SO easy to make, and it doesn’t require many supplies, but I love the result!  I now have two of these guys strategically placed in my piano room…who am I kidding, they are placed in the room that contains the piano, which also serves as our living room. 🙂  None the less, they look great, and give the room a nice musical vibe and ambiance.  The best part is that I saved some old sheet music from getting tossed, and it will now live on right next to the piano where it belongs!

So, let’s get to this craft!  Like I said, you are gonna LOVE how easy this is!

DIY MUSICAL NOTES MASON JAR CANDLE CRAFT

Materials

  • Mason jar
  • Old Sheet Music (if you don’t have old sheet music, you can go online and print off some free sheet music to use here)
  • Double sided tape, or glue
  • Scissors, pencil
  • Burlap type twine or string
  • Tealight candle

2

Directions

1.) Start by cutting your sheet music so that it is tall enough to cover the outside of the mason jar when wrapped around it (You can use a tape measure to get exact measurements, or you can do like I did and just line it up to the jar and cut accordingly)

3

2.) Now, draw a shape of your choice in the middle of the sheet music and cut it out.  I used a heart shape, but you can do whatever you choose.

4

3.) Next, place some double sided tape, or glue along the back of one end of the sheet music and attach it to the mason jar.

5

4.) Continue to place double sided tape or glue on the back of the sheet music and attaching it to the mason jar by wrapping the sheet music all the way around the mason jar.

6

5.) Now, you want to wrap your twine/string around the top of the jar multiple times until you have covered a majority of the top of the jar to your liking.  Tie it in a bow to connect it.

7

6.)  Believe it or not, you’re pretty much done!  Place the candle in the jar and light it or turn it on if your using a LED candle like I did.

See, told ya this is SO easy, and SO cute, right?  As another idea, you could also use old books to create the same candle instead of sheet music – either way, it’s a great way to repurpose old paper products!  Enjoy! 🙂
