Blueberry Banana Ginger Smoothie

Of all the berries in all the world, I think blueberry might be my favorite!  Why, you ask?  Well, blueberries are a power fruit packed with antioxidants!  There are a number of different ways that blueberries are beneficial to our health!  The following pin explains some of the health benefits of blueberries, and if you follow the link, you can see even more health benefits of these little morsels!

So we have all these awesome health benefits, and on top of all that, they taste amazing!  I love freezing a big batch of blueberries and just having them as a snack to munch on!  This smoothie recipe has blueberries as it’s main ingredient, but there are also some other powerhouses in there such as chia seeds, ginger, and banana!  At any rate, the smoothie is delicious and with it packed with nutrients like it is, it is the perfect way to start out the day!

BLUEBERRY BANANA GINGER SMOOTHIE

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 – 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/3 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp. chia seeds
  • 1 small chunk of ginger (about 1/2 inch cube)
  • pinch of stevia (optional)

Directions

1.) Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth.

Strawberry Banana Spinach Smoothie

I saw the following pin on Pinterest for a Banana Strawberry Smoothie.

It links to a recipe for a banana strawberry smoothie, which made me really crave one!  I changed the recipe to use a pinch of stevia as a sweetener instead of honey, and I used plain greek yogurt instead of milk.  Lastly, I added spinach, celery, and ginger (as you all know by now, I ALWAYS add veggies when I can)…so I guess, I changed it completely, but it does still contain strawberries and bananas! 🙂

It’s SO yummy, and will make you feel like you are laying by the pool on a beautiful summer day, indulging in a sweet shake-like treat that you should feel guilty about having.  When in reality, while you may be near a pool depending on where you are in the world and this does taste sweet, you are actually taking in something that is SO good for you body, that you don’t need to feel the least bit guilty about slurping it down to the last drop!

STRAWBERRY BANANA SPINACH SMOOTHIE

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 HUGE handful of spinach
  • 1 large stalk of celery
  • 1 small chunk of ginger
  • 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 7 ice cubes
  • pinch of stevia (optional)

Directions

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth.  Transfer to a cup and drink.

Banana Pineapple Green Smoothie

Today, Spring decided to start to peek it’s head here over Louisville, so I was inspired to make a light smoothie that was geared more towards warmer weather!  This smoothie is so great as a super healthy snack.  It’s just fruit and veggies, so it is full of nutrients, but there’s no add ins for protein or healthy fats, so it really serves as more of a snack.  OH, but it is a DELICIOUS snack!!!

Ingredients

  • 1 Banana
  • 2 leaves of Romaine Lettuce
  • 2 stalks of Celery
  • 1 cup chopped Pineapple
  • Small chunk of ginger
  • Small handful of Parsley
  • 7-10 ice cubes

Directions

1.) Put all ingredients in a blender, then blend on high till smooth!

That’s A LOT of healthiness in one glass!  I love the taste of this stuff too!  It tastes like strawberry lemonade, and it’s SO refreshing!

STRAWBERRY LEMON GREEN SMOOTHIE

Ingredients:

  • 2 stalks of Celery
  • 1 BIG handful of Spinach
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 lemon, peeled and seeds removed
  • 1 cup whole frozen strawberries
  • small chunk of ginger
  • 1 Tbsp. Chia Seeds
  • 5-10 ice cubes

Directions:

1.) Throw all the ingredients into a blender and blend till smooth.

SUPER HEALTHY GREEN SMOOTHIE

If you follow my blog, you know that I post smoothie recipes from time to time!  I love smoothies!  They’re so easy and healthy!  I also prefer smoothies to juicing, because when you juice you often lose important nutrients (fiber, etc.).  Because of this, I never think it is a good idea to have “juice” as a meal (of course, it’s great to have some freshly juiced juice sometimes, but not as a meal substitute – in my humble opinion).  A smoothie, on the other hand can be used as a easy go to meal if you are in a rush or just don’t feel like taking the time to cook/prepare food, as long as you make sure to add enough ingredients to make it equivalent to an actual meal.

This green smoothie is one of my favorites!  It’s basically an extremely healthy salad in a glass, but I think it tastes a  lot like applesauce – YUM!  Here are some of the ingredients with a pin explaining some of the health benefits of that ingredient.

SUPER HEALTHY GREEN SMOOTHIE

Ingredients

  • 2 handfuls of arugula (you can use another leafy green here if you want)
  • 1 small handful of parsley
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 Tbsp. Chia seeds
  • small chunk of ginger (about 1/2 inch cube)
  • stevia to taste
  • 4-5 ice cubes

Directions:

Throw all ingredients in a blender.  Blend. Pour in a glass and Enjoy! 🙂

SUPER HEALTHY CLEANSING SMOOTHIE

Continuing on with our cleansing for the week after Halloween!  This smoothie that I made as a snack today is SO good for you, but it is so yummy that you would never know it!  It’s quite simple, but contains quite a few super foods making it a nutritional powerhouse.  You will feel great after drinking this!  Some of the ingredients along with their benefits are as follows.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are a super food that are packed with nutrients.  Some of the health benefits of chia seeds are

  • combats diabetes
  • Helps prevent Diverticulitis / Diverticulosis
  • Strengthens teeth and bones
  • Improves heart health
  • Fights belly fat
  • Because Chia seeds are a complete protein, they provide all day energy

Collard Greens

Collard greens are an extremely healthy cruciferous vegetable.  In recent studies, collard greens outshined steamed kale, mustard greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage in some of it’s health benefits – particularly in its ability to bind bile acids in the digestive tract.  Some of it’s other health benefits include

Ginger

  • 2-3 large collard green leaves, rough stems removed
  • 1/2 cup blueberries (frozen or fresh)
  • 1/2 cup strawberries (frozen or fresh)
  • small chunk of ginger
  • 1 Tbsp. chia seeds
  • 3/4 unsweetened coconut milk
  • 2-3 ice cubes
