Apparently I am on a snowman craft kick this Christmas. I know I just posted a snowman ornament craft, but I also made these cuties and wanted to share. A long while back, I was cleaning house, and found a big box of pieces of wood. I’ve made a few crafts from that so far, but still have some more pieces of wood to do something with, so I decided to search Pinterest for some ideas for Christmas crafts. I saw this pin, but it was a dead link:
So, I decided that it looks easy enough to do it myself, and that’s exactly what I did! They are so cute, but they are also extremely easy to make! The best part is that they can be made from old materials that you just have around the house that would probably otherwise be thrown away. Here is how I made them!
WOOD SNOWMAN CRAFTS
- A block of wood
- Acrylic paint – white, orange, and black
- tape or glue
- some material for the hats and scarves – this can be an old shirt, rag, blanket, etc. I used three old blankets that I have been using for scrap material on my crafts.
- string, twine, or ribbon
1.) Start with a block of wood. Paint the entire block of wood white. Let dry.
2.) Once dry, using your pencil, sketch in the snowman’s face – 2 round eyes, a carrot for the nose, and a squiggly smile. Also, if you want to you can write a Christmas saying on the bottom of the piece of wood instead of having a scarf. It’s up to you. I did two with “Let it Snow” and “Frosty” on them and then did one with a scarf. After sketching the face, paint the face. Use black paint for the eyes and mouth and orange paint for the nose. If you did lettering, you can choose whatever color you would like for the lettering. Let dry completely.
3.) Once dry, you now want to add the hat and scarf. For the hat, cut a square piece of material that is large enough to wrap around the top of the piece of wood. For the scarf, just cut a strip of material long enough to wrap around the wood.
4.) For the hat, wrap the material around the head of the snowman, then tape or glue the ends together and to the wood. Gather the material in a bunch on top of the wood and tie a piece of twine around it in a bow to make it look like a hat. For the scarf, just wrap around the “neck” of the snowman and tie in a knot, then tape or glue it into place.
Ta-Da! Told ya it was simple – but they look great! Enjoy! 🙂
